Naturlig hudvård... är det verkligen ett bättre alternativ?

Natural skin care... is it really a better option?

There is a lot of talk lately about natural skin care as an alternative to the commercial ones that have taken over the market, and which many have been using for years. So it's time to ask: is natural skin care really better or is it just old-fashioned mom advice?

I would like to share here some of my thoughts on the subject.

When ultra-processed and chemical ingredients started entering our diet, medicine and skin care, it took us time to realize the effect these substances can have on our health. The joy of the fast processes that fit with the new lifestyle dazzled us. We became naive like a small child caught with strong colors, a child who can throw a diamond for a plastic colorful lego piece.

The beautiful packaging, lovely scents and easy availability blinded us to reflect on what they are actually made of and how they are made.

But in recent years, with increased access to information and awareness of health issues, we have begun to reflect more and more on sustainable consumption. We have started to question and search more carefully for information about what we eat and use.

I don't want to go into the details of the harm and benefit here, but we know that there is growing concern about the safety of skin care ingredients. With that, we can ask ourselves some questions to be able to think more clearly about the subjects we use.

Do I recognize the effects of these chemicals on my body and health? Is it safe to put something on my skin that is toxic? Where do the substances I lubricate with the skin go? Are the substances absorbed into the skin and what happens to them then?

Isn't it potentially safer to use something edible, such as olive oil or coconut oil, which has been used in food and skin care for thousands of years? Which is better, using natural oil extracted from fresh fruits or an ingredient that I don't know how it's made or what it's made of?

I think the answers to the questions can help us choose skin care products more easily the next time we shop...
